Bridgewater Township is a civil township of Washtenaw County in the U.S. state of Michigan. As of the 2010 census, the township population was 1,674. ==History== Bridgewater Township was organized in 1833. It was at first named Hixon Township, after Daniel Hixon who had settled here in 1829. It was renamed to its current name by the first supervisor, George A. Howe.〔Walter Romig, ''Michigan Place Names'', p. 78〕 Many township settlers had removed from New York, including his mother, thus the reason it is named after the Town of Bridgewater, Oneida County, New York. Another similarity is that each is located in a corner of its respective county. Bridgewater Township's south township line is the border of Lenawee County, and its west township line is the border of Jackson County.
